Changing Exercise Habits

Change in and of itself is a hard thing to deal with.  Most people do not like change too much. Staying status quo is so much easier on the mind and body.  There are studies out that show that people stay at jobs that they do not like just because they despise the thought of looking for another job, or going through a different routine. In times of change the most frequent reaction is to do nothing.  We feel that we are so out of sync because of the change that we cannot do anything of the things that we were doing in the past.

This phenomenon happens with exercise.

If you speak to most fitness professionals they will tell you that they witness a drop in attendance at the end of the school year and the start of the school year. That is a trend that I would like to reverse within my sphere of influence.  Let me be honest with you. I would be lying to you if I said that this isn’t about business as well. Yes in a whole the facility does see a drop during these times and it will help out if we could eliminate the drop off. But, with me it is a lot more than that. There has been too many times when I see or hear from people who are upset that they fell off or are back to what they were when they started training.

You do not need to continue this roller coaster of good health / bad health. During the beginning of this school year I want to issue a challenge to everyone out there:

“I challenge you to continue at least 80% of the training that you did over the last few months of summer.” Take this chance to stop doing nothing because you are stressed.  Your mind is a powerful tool and if used in the right way you can accomplish anything that you set out to do.

Get through this and I guarantee that you will have the best holiday season that you have ever had.
