Power of Produce – Kids POP Club
The Roswell Farmers & Artisans Market (RFAM) is introducing the Kid’s POP Club beginning May 2015.
Designed to benefit local children ages 5-12, the POP Club draws from nutrition, culinary arts, agriculture and science to encourage awareness of healthy food choices. Through participating in a series of market events, club members earn passport stamps. The completed passport can then be redeemed for a free children’s dinner at a local farm-to-table restaurant.
Events are scheduled to run May 2nd through October and include such things as decorating wildflower seed packets, grain mill demonstration, painting with herbs and spices, a real beehive, scavenger hunts, Heritage Day demonstrations, planting seeds benefiting the restoration of the Monarch butterfly and much more!
Joining is simple and free. Just stop by the market POP Club tent to get your child’s passport and instructions. Events will be pre-announced in the Market Beet Newsletter and on Facebook.
The Power of Produce Club is sponsored by Roswell Farmers & Artisans Market with the generous support of the community, including: the Georgia Farm Bureau, The City of Roswell,The Chattahoochee Nature Center and local schools. Our club is modeled after a highly successful program at the Oregon City Farmers Market, now rapidly sweeping across the country.
POP has a three-fold mission: (1) Empower children to make healthy food choices (2) Strengthen and sustain healthy communities through supporting farmers (3) Expand farmers markets from a retail location into a place where children can try new foods and learn about healthy eating.
