Power of Produce – Kids POP Club
The Roswell Farmers & Artisans Market (RFAM) is introducing the Kid’s POP Club beginning May 2015.
Designed to benefit local children ages 5-12, the POP Club draws from nutrition, culinary arts, agriculture and science to encourage awareness of healthy food choices. Through participating in a series of market events, club members earn passport stamps. The completed passport can then be redeemed for a free children’s dinner at a local farm-to-table restaurant.

Food Labeling News
According to a recent NY Times poll, 90% of Americans polled think that products containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) should be labelled as such. The Center for Food Safety, which tracks such things, says much of the developed world already has label laws on the books.
It took a $46-million infusion of campaign cash from Monsanto, DuPont and other agribusiness giants to narrowly defeat the California initiative that would have imposed mandatory labeling. Vermont did succeed in passing mandatory labeling for consumers.

Drought in America’s Salad Bowl
The current drought in California's Central Valley is the worst in the state's history
severely impacting the richest food-producing area in the world. UC Davis estimates
the economic cost to be $1.4 billion and 14,500 jobs. The Central Valley produces
half of all U.S. nuts, fruits and vegetables as well as a significant amount of beef
and dairy products.
Off to a Great Start
Now that we have the May 3rd opening behind us and we're settled in, time for an update.
The new market is going great! The market avenue has been filled with a steady flow of customers
and the vendor booths are nearly full. Each week, we have half-dozen new vendor applications which
speaks to the vibrance of the market. We strive to have something new for you every week, so come
see us, support our local entrepreneurs, and enjoy the music!

Saturday May 10th is a special day at the market! Our special guest artist, Meghan Garcia-Salas with Sacred Lotus Henna, will join us to create beautiful sparkly, shimmery, and glittery tatoos for all of our market kids.
